This week I can't wait for:

A dark rendition of the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast!
'As the gates clicked shut behind them, she heard the distant roar of a beast.'
She bears no name. Her silvery appearance is freakish to the numerous inhabitants of Sago, the cosmopolitan capital of Pevorocco in a fantasy realm. With her mother vanishing at the instance of her birth, she is sent to live with the cruel, rich Ma Dane, where she is punished daily for something, though she knows not what. Tauntingly named Beauty, she flees Sago in a violent uprising that sets out to massacre all Magics and journeys to the furthest point of the country.
But Beauty cannot hide in the grassy Hillands forever. Before long, the State officials find her and threaten to take her back to war-torn Sago where death surely awaits. In a midnight blizzard she escapes them, running into a deep, enchanted forest to a great and terrible beast who will bargain for her life.
But can Beauty accept Beast? Eternity is a long time.
G. R. Mannering's eloquent style and creative retelling of a timeless classic illuminates the plight of Beauty and the Beast, bringing a new layer to this beloved tale.

Some reasons why I'm excited about Roses
1) Have I told you lately how much I love retellings of Beauty and the Beast?
2) Confession: I finished this book last night, and I enjoyed the story so much that I'm posting it as my WoW anyway (I'll also be reviewing it soon).
3) This retelling is reads very traditionally...and it also does not.
4) Beauty and the Beast's love story is only part of this enchanting story.
What book are you waiting on this week?

I love the cover for this one! and 'Beauty and the Beast' was my favorite fairytale even before he gave her library as a present in Disney's cartoon (that just sealed the deal). Thanks for featuring it, I am definitely adding it to my tbr. And looking forward to that review. :)
ReplyDeleteCheck out what I am waiting for this Wednesday...
Heyyy if you love Beauty and Beast retellings, you should also check out Cruel Beauty. It doesn't release until January next year but the ARC is already available on Edelweiss. Thanks for sharing this, Lauren. I'll be adding this to my TBR too.

ME TOO LAUREN! Beauty and the Beast is my all-time favorite fairy tale and I can never get enough of retellings. This one is new to me, but is absolutely going on the list for obvious reasons. Plus, if you've already read it and loved it, then I want it even more because we tend to like the same things:)
ReplyDeleteOh I love retellings! And Beauty and the Beast is usually my favourite! I haven't heard of this one before, but sounds like I'll be needing to this one out! Can't wait to see your review, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteHere's my WoW at Bookmunchies (:
I hadn't heard of this one, but it sounds good. I enjoy retellings as long as they're just the inspiration. To me, if it's too close to the original, I get a bit bored. I loved Of Beast and Beauty, it was really well done. I'll have to check out this one! ~Pam
ReplyDeleteThis one hasn't been on my radar, but it sounds really good. So glad you brought it to my attention.
