that spotlights upcoming releases we can't wait to read.
This week I can't wait for:
The Unbound
by Victoria Schwab
(The Archived book 2)
To be published: January 28, 2014 by Hyperion
Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books. Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures that only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive.
Last summer, Mackenzie Bishop, a Keeper tasked with stopping violent Histories from escaping the Archive, almost lost her life to one. Now, as she starts her junior year at Hyde School, she's struggling to get her life back. But moving on isn't easy -- not when her dreams are haunted by what happened. She knows the past is past, knows it cannot hurt her, but it feels so real, and when her nightmares begin to creep into her waking hours, she starts to wonder if she's really safe.
Meanwhile, people are vanishing without a trace, and the only thing they seem to have in common is Mackenzie. She's sure the Archive knows more than they are letting on, but before she can prove it, she becomes the prime suspect. And unless Mac can track down the real culprit, she'll lose everything, not only her role as Keeper, but her memories, and even her life. Can Mackenzie untangle the mystery before she herself unravels?
With stunning prose and a captivating mixture of action, romance, and horror, The Unbound delves into a richly imagined world where no choice is easy and love and loss feel like two sides of the same coin. (From Goodreads)

I really enjoyed The Archived, which featured gorgeous lyrical prose and a library for the dead. I'm excited to continue Mac's story with The Unbound. I'm particularly thrilled that this description talks about her going to high school, because I'm eager to see her interact more with the world of the living. Plus action, romance and horror are all predicted (hope that means lots more eyeliner wearing Wes).
What are you waiting on this week?

Haven't read #1, but I know that you enjoyed it and the covers are so different from other YA books that it really intrigues me. I hope this works out well for you, hon:)
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to read book 1, but unfortunately it's not out here in the UK. Might have to be an Amazon special order! The library of the dead concept really drew me in.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
I totally need to hop on this series because EVERYONE that's read it has loved it! And I think I may have mentioned that I actually saw the first book at my library's YA section! So perhaps I may pick it up in the future. I know that both you and Heather loved it, so that's a huge plus for me. AND this is a Southern author so another plus!
ReplyDeleteThere's an eyeliner wearing love interest in this series? WHY DIDN'T I ALREADY KNOW THIS LAUREN! *runs to Amazon to buy The Archived* Can't wait to start this series:) HERE I COME WES!
ReplyDeleteThe Archived was on my wishlist then I just kind of forgot about it (don't you hate when that happens?). I think I'll have to check it out so I can read this next book!

ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I've lost all interest in picking up The Archived...not sure why. I'm hoping that if this series continues to shape up so well, then I'll definitely pick it up, so hopefully this is just as good as The Archived. Great pick, Lauren!
ReplyDeleteOoooo! It sounds so good, I have definitely added it to my TBR shelf. The cover is also really dark and mysterious... so awesome. Great pick and thank you for sharing.

I've been wanting to read The Archived as well! I hear great things about Victoria Schwab's writing style. My library recently got a copy, so I do want to get to it soon (maybe around September/October). For me, the book has a fall season feel about it. :)
