Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish
Top ten characters I would crush on if I were also a fictional character.
Let's be honest, I'm not a fictional character and I'm still crushing on these guys. All I can say is their ladies are pretty lucky, and they better hang onto them tight.
1) Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery- Gilbert was one of my first true book crushes. I remember adoring his relationship with Anne (I still do!), and wanting to be her so that I could find a guy who complimented me as well as he compliments her.
2) Captain Wentworth from Persuasion by Jane Austen - This is my favorite Austen book and hero. Deemed an unworthy match for Anne, he becomes a rich and successful captain, and remains steadfast in his love for her. And that letter *sigh,* he knows a thing or two about melting hearts.
3) Jonah Griggs from Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta - Who knew a guy who killed his father could be so dreamy? I love how much my perception of him changed from when we first encounter him looking huge and blunt and menacing, to the end when he will do just about anything for Taylor.
4) Cricket Bell from Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins - Although Lola is far from my favorite heroine, she snagged a winner with Cricket, who makes nice guys look sexy. He is also a brilliant inventor. I still want to throttle Lola for taking so long to figure out how awesome he is, though.
5) Peregrine from Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi- Although a man of few words, Perry has an incredible presence, sexy tattoos and an awesome ability to scent the tempers of those around him. If I were in a survivalist book, he's who I'd pick to be my hero. And let's face it, he's a good choice in any circumstances.
6) Adam Kent from Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi - No switching teams for me! Take that Warner. Adam is the only person who's cared for Juliette since she was a child, and has seen her goodness all along. Don't worry, Adam. I see you.
7) John Thornton from North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell - Although he's pretty dreamy in his own right, it doesn't hurt that he's played by Richard Armitage in the series. If I had to live in a smog filled industrial England, this mill owner would certainly make it worth while.
8) Giovanni Vecchio from A Hidden Fire by Elizabeth Hunter - I adore this adult Paranormal Romance series. Gio has a lot to do with that. A sexy book collector/historian/warrior/vampire who commands fire. What's not to like?
9) Eugenedes from The Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner - Gen is definitely an unlikely hero, especially in the first book, but that sneaky thief has wormed his way into my heart. No wonder he got Irene to fall in love with him. I'm a sucker for boy protagonists.
10) Stephen Dene from The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson - Okay, this is kind of militant of me, because I'm not quite over certain things in book 2 of this series. BUT I simply adore Stephen. Hard working, clinically minded, educated and proper, Stephen is not your stereotypical hero, but he is the head of a ghost hunting police force, which is pretty cool, and has a special place in my heart.
There are so many guys that I had to cut from this list! I'm so bad with picking a TOP ten. Nevertheless, this is a good representation of many of my favorites.
Who are some of your favorite fictional crushes?
Great list! Wentworth and Thornton also made my list this week =D Yay for Persuasion being your favourite Austen novel too! *high-fives*
ReplyDeleteThat Megan Whalen Turner series looks interesting, I'm going to have to check it out.
My TTT
The MWT series starts slowly, but becomes brilliant in book 2 and 3. I hope you love it. LOVE Persuasion. I've been thinking recently, that I want to read it again. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteCricket is SO ADORABLE, I love him. Also yes to Wentworth's letter!
ReplyDeletePoor Cricket puts up with so much. I adore him!
DeleteOh yes I did really love Cricket!
ReplyDeleteMarissa @ Rae Gun Ramblings
I don't think Cricket gets enough love.
DeleteTotally and completely agree with Stephen Dene! He's fantastic. I'm not over the end of Book 2 either - I'm sure we'll see plenty of him in the next books regardless, but the wait is already killing me!
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten
STEPHEN! I know we'll see him again, but... no spoilers. GRRRRRR. I'm still angry. I love him to pieces. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteJonah totally made it to my list as well. I loved him! Sigh. Cricket was funny for me. I appreciated him more as a friend than a love interest. But maybe it was the mood I was in when I was reading it.
ReplyDeleteAnywho,
My TTT
Oh Jonah! I'm glad he and Taylor found each other. They've both faced so much in their lives. I would totally date Cricket Bell. Lola got a pretty good deal with him.
DeleteOh my. I'm swooning at all these names! I don't find many people who have read A Hidden Fire! I love Giovanni, and totally forgot about him! And yes, Richard Armitage made me love Thornton.
ReplyDelete- Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl
YAY! Glad someone else has experienced Gio. Love him and Beatrice. Oh Richard. I heart him. I mean, Mr. Thornton.
DeleteI definitely need to read Jellicoe Road! I've seen Jonah on so many lists! Great list!
ReplyDeleteYou do! It is EXCELLENT. It's tricky at first, but keep reading. One of my favorites EVER.
DeleteI've been wanting to read The Name of The Star SO bad. I even own it.. but haven't yet.. arg!
ReplyDelete<3! New Follower
Beth | The Reading Vixens [Formerly YA Vixens]
Vixen's Top Ten!
The Name of the Star is a good one! Though I'm hesitant to recommend book 2. Rory is a great heroine and I adore Stephen, of course.
DeleteOh yes to Cricket! I love how he's so intelligent and articulate (both very important qualities) and genuinely NICE. Totally agree with you on Lola though - not one of my favourites either. That scene at the end where he's helping her get ready for prom! *swoons*
ReplyDeleteJonah is agghhh *runs out of words and is forced to resort to making strange noises to express general FEELINGS* but so is that whole book - SO BEAUTIFUL. SO GOOD.
I think Adam's definitely waaay better for Juliette than Warner is... but there's just something about Warner that draws me in. (Like an insect drawn to a Venus flytrap.) He's crazy-intense... and just plain crazy, frankly, but he's sooo damn intriguing.
Ugh. Lola. I just wanted to slap some sense into her. She does not deserve Cricket. Why do the nice guys always end up with idiot girls? Anyway.
DeleteAnd Jonah. I know! I know! He makes me incoherent as well. As for Warner, all I can say is UGH. Not for me.
Wentworth and Thornton made my list as well. I agree about Gilbert and Anne.
ReplyDeleteJessica @ Literary, etc
Gilbert and Anne are a power couple if I ever saw them. They were made for each other. LOVE their love story.
DeleteLove, love, love your list. A few of them are on mine - and Gen and Jonah would definitely be top 20! ;)
ReplyDeleteI am doing a lot of sighing and swooning today!
DeleteYES to Captain Wentworth, Jonah, Perry, Cricket, and Gen!(: I still need to read Anne of Green Gables, and one or two other titles on here too, but Brigan from Fire, Red from DotF, and Rowan from Wanderlove would have definitely made my list too. And let's not forget Mr. Darcy! ;)
ReplyDeleteWow. You haven't read Anne of Green Gables? I LOVE that series so much. I hope you enjoy them as well. I almost put Rowan on this list and I love Red as well. I still need to read Fire.
DeleteI'd go for Gilbert, if only
ReplyDeleteI didn't love him and Anne so much! :)
Top Ten Book Boyfriends
You're right, Anne and Gilbert are amazing TOGETHER. One of my most favorite couples. Plus if you read all their books, you get to see their full love story.
DeleteTHANK YOU for not moving to the dark side. I love Adam a whole lot, and though I liked him better in Shatter Me, I still have a special place for him in my heart :) And CRICKET BELL, how could I have forgotten about him?! Love!
ReplyDeleteI just don't think that Adam got a chance to shine in Unravel Me. Hoping that TM gives him the opportunity in book 3!! Oh Cricket. He doesn't get enough love. Can't wait to see him again in Isla.
DeleteWe don't have none in common, but maybe it's better. ;)
ReplyDeleteLola annoyed me too how she was blind to Cricket's awesomeness. Geek rule!
Nice list, most of the books are still on my tbr, but now I want to read them all soon. :D
Dragana @ Bookworm Dreams
My top ten fictional book crushes...
Definitely need to support those geeky nice guys. I agree, Cricket is awesome.
DeleteWentworth, Cricket and Adam....those boys can melt some hearts for sure!
ReplyDeleteAGREED. Love those three.
DeleteYay! Great list:) And Perry made mine as well. Must read Lola and the Boy Next Door SOON! And you know I had to put MY team from the Shatter Me series on my list too...;)
ReplyDeleteYES! You should read Lola. Tho you'll probably like Max. Blech! Just kidding, I know you like the nice ones sometimes. On Warner. I'm glad he has supporters, but I still want him to GO AWAY.
DeleteGreat list!! Captain Wentworth should have been on my list! I really want to read Jellicoe Road!
ReplyDeleteMy TTT
Eva @ All Books Considered
I hope you do love Jellicoe Road. It's hard to get into, but so very worth it!!!
DeleteIf I had an honorable mention, Perry and Adam would've topped it. Two of my favorite series too. Great list!
ReplyDeleteHere's my list - TTT @ Krista's Dust Jacket
Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteYes, yes, yes to all of them! Jonah, Cricket, Perry and Adam would totally make my list! And I'm especially glad to see Cricket and Adam get some love :) (And I <3 what you wrote about Adam! I totally agree. Don't screw this up, Juliette!) ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm so worried about the last Shatter Me book! I'm already freaking out about it. She better give Adam a chance!!!
DeleteEeps. Of all of these, I've only read Jellicoe Road! I clearly need to read Shatter Me, Under the Never Sky, and the Queen's Thief series. And if I hadn't been slacking, I'm sure I'd agree with you on your book character crushes! ;)
ReplyDeleteMy TTT
Randi @ Cardigans, Coffee & Bookmarks
You DO need to read all those series. They are epic! It's so fun to discover new favorites.
DeleteTHANK YOU! Adam, Adam, ADAM! I don't understand the Warner thing. Especially after what he did in Shatter Me?! And I love Perry from UTNS too. :)
ReplyDeleteMy TTT
Jessica@Lovin' Los Libros
I agree, ADAM!!!!! I'm hoping he gets the chance to shine in the final book.
DeleteSo much wonderful crushes! #1-4, I CRUSH ON THEM TOO! Wentworth (Persuasion is also my favorite Austen book!), Thornton (always swooning for him, especially if he is played by Richard Armitage), GILBERT BLYTHE (ahhhh). Jonah Griggs and Cricket Bell are on my list too! How can I not?
ReplyDeleteMy top ten!
I agree! Lots of screaming today, and swooning. SO many great guys in YA fiction.
DeleteOk, you asked for it ; )
ReplyDelete#1. Mr. Knightley - I love a man who adores his sweetheart-flaws and all-but loves her enough to help her grow in character. Sigh. Mr. Knightley is the man of my dreams-truly!
#2. Edward Cullen - When the guy does was is BEST for the girl, even though it's agony for them both-well, that's true love and I am smitten. And when it happens in a novel-you usually get a happy ending afterall ;)
#3 Johnny Parker (The Measure of a Lady)LOVE this man! Charming with a heart of gold!
#4. Phillip Wyndham-I confess, I love being teased-even at my own expense and Phillip is the best of them when it comes to teasing-and adoring!
#5.W.W. Hale the V (is it the Fifth?) He's slick, he's rich, he's charming and he's sweet underneath it all. What more could you want?
#6. Sean Kendrick...it might be the narrator's voice in the audio book that made me fall for him. He may be a man of few words but he doesn't need many to cast his spell, swoooon!
#7. John Thornton. The way he loved Margaret was just so precious. A man of honor! (umm, and that Richard Armitage....sigh)
#8. Lance Michelli (Secrets by K.Heitzman) There isn't any way not to crush on him...drives a motorcycle, has tatoos, amazing cook, a tease and a charmer-but solid and true-though not perfect.
#9. Clark Davis from Love Comes Softly-the first romance novel I read as a young teen. He was faithful and patient, wooing Marty little by little. Just.so.sweet!
#10. Adam Clark (Jane AUsten Ruined My Life) Sorry, but I have a soft spot for the guy whose the best friend.
Now, if even just ONE of them could step off the pages and into my life-THAT would be a very nice Happily Ever After ; )
I love you, dear! Thanks for commenting here. Basically I love all of these that I've read, and I love that you stick by Edward to the end :). Hale and Sean were almost on my list. Although I liked Adam from #10, I still am angry about that book. UGH. Is all I can say. But everything else, SWOON. JOHNNY PARKER. I forgot him. But <3
DeleteI loved the excuse to come up with the list ;)
DeleteSigh. Gil. I feel like swooning on the spot...in my chair. Captain Wentworth, Thornton...check and check. Perry, yes please. My sister would clap for you for Gen, but I still have to read the second book to see it ;) And The Name of the Star...gah I need to start that one!
ReplyDeleteGreat list, Lauren :)
Sunny @ Blue Sky Bookshelf
I've been swooning all day! I keep wanting to add names when I see everyone's picks. I'm sure she's pressuring you to finish The Queen's Thief series, but it truly is fantastic. And The Name of the Star is great...though book 2 isn't as great. Hoping that book 3 picks it up again.
DeleteAHHHH! We share four of the same fellas on our lists, and they are four of THE BEST book boys: Gilbert, Wentworth, Jonah and Cricket. I got so excited when I saw Cricket on your list because most people I know prefer Etienne. But not me! I'm a HUGE fan of Cricket. Not Lola, just Cricket :)
ReplyDeleteAnd obviously Gilbert is one of the best book boys EVER. I love that you referenced Wentworth's letter - I also noted that he was a good letter writer haha!
I love that our tastes are so similar! Down with Lola, but CRICKET. I heart him so.
DeleteI couldn't agree more with what you said about Lola and the Boy Next Door. I love Cricket. I ended up loving him more than St. Clair which is pretty amazing. But Lola drove me insane! Probably in part because I cared so much about Cricket. Although, seriously, that is the most ridiculous name ever.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read North and South but I've seen the movie. And RICHARD ARMITAGE!!! Talk about swoon worthy!
Yeah. Lola would make my least favorite heroines list. I get that she was confused, but Max was a douche, and Cricket was the sweetest ever.
DeleteRichard Armitage definitely deserves all caps. I love him as well.
Love your list! I think we have similar taste in fictional men :D
ReplyDeleteSo you're one of those people who didn't change in unravel me! haha, although to be honest I went into shatter me and REALLY liked Warner, I could tell there was more to him so I was never really Team Adam. The minute I read DM the choice was obvouis and I was like yeah...officiallyTEAM WARNER.
ReplyDeleteLily @ lilysbookblog
I can't believe I forgot John Thornton!!! He is SO delicious. *swoons*
ReplyDeleteSo many yummy book crushes out there - it's hard to limit it to just 10!
Great list.
