He's certainly one of the most mysterious individuals in this book.

Wilhelmina has a hundred identities.
She is a princess. When the Indigo Kingdom conquered her homeland, Wilhelmina and other orphaned children of nobility were taken to Skyvale, the Indigo Kingdom’s capital. Ten years later, they are the Ospreys, experts at stealth and theft. With them, Wilhelmina means to take back her throne.
She is a spy. Wil and her best friend, Melanie, infiltrate Skyvale Palace to study their foes. They assume the identities of nobles from a wraith-fallen kingdom, but enemies fill the palace, and Melanie’s behavior grows suspicious. With Osprey missions becoming increasingly dangerous and their leader more unstable, Wil can’t trust anyone.
She is a threat. Wraith is the toxic by-product of magic, and for a century using magic has been forbidden. Still the wraith pours across the continent, reshaping the land and animals into fresh horrors. Soon it will reach the Indigo Kingdom. Wilhelmina’s magic might be the key to stopping the wraith, but if the vigilante Black Knife discovers Wil’s magic, she will vanish like all the others,
Jodi Meadows introduces a vivid new fantasy full of intrigue, romance, dangerous magic, and one girl’s battle to reclaim her place in the world.

Black Knife Character Reveal
Anonymity is important. Black Knife wears a full mask that covers his entire head, except his eyes. It's not the most stylish approach, but it's less likely to get him recognized.
2) I figured out who Black Knife is fairly early in the story. But the book was just as exciting, because I got to watch Wil and him interact in different settings, not realizing everything about each other.
3) Many characters have several identities, but not many know all of each person's different identities. This made things interesting, because some characters know more than others realize, and it affects their interactions in different settings.
4) In many ways, Black Knife is most himself when he is out at night in the dark streets of the city. But when his mask come off, he has responsibilities of a different sort. At the end of the day (or night), which is Black Knife's real mask and which is his true self?

ReplyDeleteI felt very similar to you. It didn't take long to figure out who it was but I so pleased it didn't take away anything from the story or relationship between him and Wil.
ReplyDeleteHe is absolutely one of my favorite characters

I have yet to read this book and I have no idea who the Black Knife could be! I can't wait to read it to find out! :)

I have a US address but rafflecopter might show my location outside US because I’m doing a semester abroad

Meeep, I am so jealous that you got to take part in this blog tour, hih. <3 You are so lucky :) And all kinds of amazing! Anyway. Gorgeous tour post Lauren :D Thank you and Jodi so much for sharing. <3 I cannot wait to meet The Black Knife. Sigh. So excited to get to know him :D I haven't read any spoilers about who he is, but I'm pretty sure I can guess it before I star the book, hah :) Anyway. Love the post. <3
ReplyDeleteThis just arrived, about two hours ago, at my doorstep. It's killing me not to be able to start it yet. Black Knife! I want to meet and hug him or her this instant! Meadows locked me down as a permanent reader with her New Soul series. I can't wait to see what she does with a new world.

Sarcasm & Lemons
I love the idea of seeing Black Knife and Wil interaction, and the real person and Wil interacting, and seeing how different/similar they are. Once the masks have fallen, so to speak, will be able to work together? I really hope so! Nervous about that cliffhanger...
ReplyDeleteBlack Knife sounds interesting, but if someone is clad in black and only have his eyes seen, wouldn't people notice that? ;) People nowadays notice the flashiest and the shadiest! Haha, kidding aside, I can't wait to check out this book. This kind of reminds me of Kiss of Deception in which the characters have different identities and we don't really know who is who until later on.

Ohhh I am certainly intrigued about this Black Knife character, I'm usually really slow at guessing things these days, so I probably won't have a clue to who Black Knife is. Also I've been meaning to read a book by Meadows for the longest time now, so I think this book is definitely one I'm looking forward to starting off with! Thanks for sharing this post with us Lauren!
ReplyDeleteI haven't read this book, and I have no idea who Black Knife is, but I would love to find out. This book sounds so good. Thanks for having the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a good guesser.....I definitely want to read to figure out who the BlackKnife is.......
ReplyDeletethank you for the giveaway!!
I don't have any guesses, but I do love a masked man. :D
ReplyDeleteCharacters with more than one identity, you say? I'm on board! Plus, it sounds like Black Knife will become an instant favorite. I can't wait to check out this series!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, L!
Oh man, I can not guess things to save my life! I am never the one to call a movie but I'm excited to delve more into this world. I just picked up Incarnate at the library because I'm just excited to read some Jodi Meadows. I've heard great things.
